Rick Lujan will present a chilling zombie fashion show!

A zombie-themed art exhibit will allow you to vote for the Best in Show.

Burning Paradise Video will be spinning zombie flicks all night.

On February 6th, 2008, in addition to the Way of the Tea show and discussion at The Weyrich Gallery, I will also have work on display at the next Black Market Goods installation.

Josh Jones and his roving troupe of artists has finally found a home–at The Stove space in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am happy and proud to take part in Josh’s latest event and I’m glad to know they’ve found a permanent show space. Expect great things from them!

“Lapis Dreams” is a new piece, done in mixed media on recycled wood. A dreaming opium smoker lets visions and colors flow from his expanded mind. He will be on display at the Black Market Goods Event, along with a dozen or so other new paintings and pieces.

I hope to see all of you there! There will be 25 artists and crafters there, sharing some pretty cool stuff.

Fiesta de Frida Entry (Frida Kahlo)

This is an entry I did for the Duke City Renegades Art Guild summer Fiesta de Frida art show, to be hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to The Carrie Tingley Foundation (medical research). She is done with traditional Chinese brush painting techniques on white rice paper and mounted on pine.

Frida had to endure numerous experimental back surgeries and medical treatments after an accident in her youth left her damaged. The Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation was happy to work with us, and we’re happy to know that our silent auction proceeds may benefit people in medical need, as Frida was.

The Duke City Renegades are throwing the Fiesta de Frida in honor of her brave spirit, wild personality, and her moving, dynamic paintings; she held on and expressed herself with the fearlessness of someone who has faced the edge, and walked back from it.

If you’re interested in attending the Fiesta de Frida, I will have a booth there (and my Frida Kahlo portrait will be up for bidding).

The Wooden Cow Gallery Fundraiser Success! (June 6th, First Friday)

Our First Friday silent auction fundraiser was a success!

Work by 14 talented local artists and craftspeople were up on the auction block and several hundred attendees strolled through the display, bidding on everything from wire-wrapped gemstone jewelry and lush photographs, expressive acrylics, and daring mixed media work. While snacking on gourmet treats and eyeballing original handiwork, eager art lovers learned about the Wooden Cow project and how their donations and energy helped.

Bid were penned quickly. Hopeful winners hovered around the silent bid sheets, hoping to secure their objects of desire. As the 8 pm closing rolled around, happy winners left Mama’s Minerals with their delightful spoils. A good bid-fest is always a great way to end a Friday night! We raised a nice chunk of funding for our project and we mingled with many interested (and interesting) people.

The silent auction event was held to raise funds for an artist-owned, artist-run gallery and art space, which plans to open its doors in the near future. The Wooden Cow, LLC is a vibrant, grassoots organization, which embraces all forms of art, craft, and creation, in a true democratic environment. The Wooden Cow wants to make Albuquerque an arts destination, not just an airport on the way to Santa Fe.

Join Mama’s Minerals in welcoming a burgeoning art gallery, The Wooden Cow Gallery and Art Space.

The “Cow”, as she is affectionately known, has been born, and her founding “parents” are throwing a silent auction to raise funds for the new, upcoming gallery and art space.

Bid on original multi-media artwork, paintings, wire and polymer clay jewelry, mixed media art, and photographs by local Albuquerque artists: Cindy Chavez, Sharon Bloom, Annie Hooten, Fenton Ayres, Caitlin Padilla, Heather Larson, Ren Adams, Regina Portscheller, Raine Klover, Jill Riester, Leau Phillips, Camilla Haneberg, and LaRue Claros.

Artwork will be on display at Mama’s Minerals beginning May 30, 2008, with the silent auction beginning at 5 pm on Friday, June 6, 2008 and concluding at 8pm that same evening. You need not be present at 8 pm to win. Simply place a bid or bids any time during that time span. Winners who are not present will be notified after the auction.

Meet the talented artists, partake in good conversation and enjoy refreshments, 5 pm to 8 pm. Every dollar counts!

Materialize, one of my longer scroll paintings, on a silent auction table at December’s Holiday Arty Party, hosted by Annie Hooten. All of the items on the table were donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. The Holiday Arty Pary was held at the Marriott Uptown, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Annie organized the event very well and I can’t wait to see what else she plans in the future.

Duke City Renegades Art Show Review

Ok, so I’m a little biased. Our show rocked. We were featured in the paper, had lots of great advertising, crappy weather–and we still had a great time!

The Duke City Renegades are a local Art & Craft Guild (centered in the Duke City, of course. For the uninitiated, Albuquerque, NM is Duke City). We have a diverse membership base, talented members and serious drive. Our goal is to help each other grow our art, our arts & crafts businesses, and our range of abilities–all while we have fun.

Our participants included:
Paula Manning-Lewis, Sandra Williams, Ken Murakami, Cari Pier, Robyn Vines-Smith (as Burst of Happiness AND Babycakes Aprons), Kris Hunt, Susan See, Alex Williams, PD Rearick, Crochet and Crafts, Raine Klover, Jolie Designs, Joyce Shafer, Barbrie Chavez, Barbara Clark, Me (Ren Adams), and Robert Redus.

Aaron Lewis provided elegant classial guitar for the event as well.
